Customer Reviews

Excellent quality setUpdate, 03/05/2016:Upgrading the rating from four to five stars. I find that I use these tools all the time, and really like them! The long handles are a definite plus.Other than the fact that a small recipe book is included in the package, I really have no idea why this set is called "Mexican Kitchen" when none of the tools are specialty items for Mexican cookery. Whatever... ;-)These seem to be well-designed, quality tools. The metal is nicely finished on the handles, with no rough edges, and the silicone is thick enough to hold up against heat without warping or curling. (At least so far.) The tomato red silicone adds a bright touch of color to the kitchen. From a practical standpoint, the canister gets top points. It holds the tools with room for more, and is heavy enough that it won't tip over. In the looks department, however, I was a bit disappointed with it. The product picture makes the canister look like it is brushed stainless, but it is actually shiny, like chrome. But that's a matter of personal decor preferences, and you might like it just fine.Overall, the set is nice. Recommended. 5Five Starsperfect for frying eggs in a small (8") skillet 5Pretty and very functional. 4.5 starsI really like the Rick Bayless utensil holder and the utensils. The holder is made of shiny sturdy stainless steel and holds more than just the four utensils that came with the product. I have added a few more of my own. As for the utensils they are also well made with strong handles and each is made of a firm silicone. Only one drawback is the spoon and the ladle are little smaller than what I like, the ladle holds about 1/3 a cup. Each of the utensils are about a foot long, I would have liked them just a little longer. I put these in the dishwasher with no problems. Included are some Mexican recipes (in Spanish and French too). These are the first cookware pieces I have used from Rick Bayless and I will recommend his cookware to others. 4Nice, sturdy kitchen utensils!Love these heavier, quality kitchen utensils. The handles are easy to hold, sturdy and appear to hold up well. I have used them every day for the last week and could not find an issue. I use the dishwasher (top rack) to wash them, I have made spaghetti sauce, spaghetti, casserole, and brownies to name a few and found no issues. I was worried about heat, but I did not see an issue with the plastic curling. Now, I didn't leave the utensils IN the pan of boiling water or the simmering spaghetti sauce, but they worked well for normal use. The only thing I was unhappy with is the actual "container" that holds the utensils is chrome, not brushed stainless steel. I had assumed it would match the handles on the utensils, but is doesn't. 5Love this set!!Love this set and it looks good on my black top stove! Just remember these are not stiff and hard like metal so break up your ground beef before putting it in your stick-proof skillet! Wash up great, in the sink, I don t have a dish washer, I m the dishwasher! And the metal handles are shiny and beautiful! Also you ll see there s plenty of room to add more utensils as I did my long spatula and pinchers. On each utensil in this set is a ring of metal at end of handle where, if you are changing things up, you could hang the utensils on hooks and use the shiny container for something else!!I m very pleased with this set of utensils! 5Perfectly CromulentThese are solid, durable, totally reasonable cooking implements. I definitely like them. The spatulas have the right amount of give and firmness. I hate when a spatula has too much give and so you can't really use it to stir fry or do any heavy lifting. All of these implements are sturdy and get the job done. If you don't have this kinda stuff, could be well worth buying. Here are the downsides: Each implement has a ring on the end of the handle. That allows you to hang them from something if you want. But it comes with that metal container, so you're probably not gonna be hanging them. And that ring just sort of gets in the way of your hand when you're holding it. It adds slight discomfort. But the handle otherwise is very comfortable. Nice round, smooth metal. The only other downside is that the metal, while very pleasant to the touch, heats up quite quickly, so you have to make sure to avoid touching the part of the handle close to the flames right after cooking.Anyway, totally solid, happy to have them, but they don't seem any better than cheap ikea cookware. 3Nicely made and hefty feeling, but I have a few design questionsUpdate: 9/25/2015: OK, I've been using these for a month or so now and I've come around to liking them more than I initially did so I upgraded them from four stars to five. They are holding up nicely and I use them every day. I particularly like the stainless container--it's very heavy and I now have it crammed with about a dozen kitchen tools. Took me a while to warm up to these, but they're nicer than I thought. Here's the original review:I think that the quality of these tools is very high and the stainless holder is very nice, so overall a nice-looking set of tools. The stainless handles of the four tools also have a lot of heft, which is nice, they feel solid and like they'll probably last forever. I've worked in kitchens on and off throughout my life (starving writer and all that) and there are some tools that you just must own, they are so strong and so efficient and so nicely designed. I'm not sure those fall into that category (but who knows, they might grow on me), but they are certainly not cheap or poorly made.I do think some of the tools are a little on the short side (see the photo). I went through all of my kitchen tools and laid them side-by-side to see if it was my imagination or not. Surprisingly (to me, lol) it was my imagination in a few cases: the ladle, while it looks very short, is only a half inch or so shorter than may favorite wooden-handled ladle and I would have sworn that it was at least two inches longer. Go figure. But the spatula is definitely small (in both length and spatula size)--almost like it was made for miniature food. I'm not sure what you'd be flipping with this, but it seems very small when compared to my other spatulas.I also have to question why they put hanging loops on the tools when they are sold with the stainless receptacle. The loops (as one other reviewer mentioned) get in my way when I'm handling them. No where near a deal breaker, but annoying nonetheless. Also, keep in mind, you don't want to lay a stainless tool on a hot stovetop for too long or you'll be running your hands under cold water a lot--those handles will get very hot and there is no rubber guard at the handle end. Yes, the stainless looks expensive and "cool" (in the design sense) but they will get hot--fast.Lastly, why is there no slotted spoon? This set definitely cries out for a slotted spoon. So, a nice set of tools, probably (good as a gift, too expensive for me to buy them for myself) but I honestly think if you spend an hour in a good kitchen store (or a thrift shop, for that matter, which is where tons of my kitchen tools came from) you'll find your soul tools. Are these pretty good tools and nicely made? Yes. Are they my kitchen soul tools? No. And you might think this is putting too much thought into mere spoons and spatulas (and you might be right), but those are my thoughts. 5Solid and PrettyThese are good kitchen tools. Even if you have the basics, you may not have a couple of these. I didn't have a ladle (who knows where my old one had gone) and didn't have this particular flipper. Each tool is well-constructed. I like the metal handles. They're nice looking and come in a nice container that will make a good home for some of those other tools that seem to float around your kitchen. This would be a nice gift for someone moving into their first home, a shower gift or simply something that will brighten up your own kitchen. 5Solidly made, colorful and well priced. All of the silicone pieces in this set are of very good quality. I have been using the same silicone spatulas from Le Creuset for 12 years and expect a similar lifespan from this batch. The stainless steel vessel also seems solidly made. It can be used as a holder for the spoons and spatulas, but I prefer to use these types of containers for sauces, to collect vegetable peelings, etc.Overall this is a good package deal at a very good price. 5
